Asheville Sports Massage—What Exactly is Sports Massage?
There are many types of bodywork out there and I get the question a lot—What exactly is Sports Massage?
The main feature distinguishing Sports massage from other types of therapeutic bodywork is the emphasis on kinesiology, or human movement. Sports massage therapists possess a deep understanding of how movement and posture can impact pain patterns in the body. This enables us to formulate effective treatment plans that address the root causes of pain and dysfunction and help clients achieve their goals.
With this knowledge, I am equipped to comprehend the impacts of your sport on your body, even if that “sport” is not an organized one but more along the lines of everyday repetitive movements, such as driving a truck, chasing after a toddler, carrying serving trays, or working at a desk.
My Personal Style of Work
I’m a nerd for all the cool tools and techniques out there for athletic recovery, like kinesio-taping, scraping, cupping, contrast therapy, and many more, and I may incorporate these into sessions if they align with client goals.
Aside from the tools, my personal style of work involves integrating effective clinical techniques with a focus on the mind-body connection. I value working with the nervous system from both an intuitive and communicative standpoint, so although we may go to some intense places in the work, we will take as much time as needed to allow the techniques to synthesize in the body without overwhelming the nervous system. Thus, while the work is both deep and effective, it also fosters a sense of nourishment, relaxation, and the creation of healthy connections between your brain and body that will continue to develop long after your session.
